From the album "Glean" (no longer available)
This is a live recording from a performance at Java Joes in Yorba Linda.
This was one of the best versions of this song in it's original arrangement. It became "The Deeper Sound" when Scott suggested "take it down a bit".
The circus sounds I recorded at the Orange County Fair. Gotta love that guy's laugh! I had always envisioned this song with these kind of sounds in the beginning so when the opportunity arose to actually record those sounds, I did. I sat on it for a while and when I captured this live take of the tune I edited the circus stuff and stuck it in there.
lyrics
As the circus leaves town
Get familiar with my sound again
I can breathe again
when I bury the clowns
Don’t know where I’m goin
I only know today
I’m tired of all the diggin
Through yesterdays wake
As my eyesight fades
Things are getting clearer
As wisdom reigns
My dreams are getting dearer
As I grow in faith
I no longer fear it
As I find my way
I can finally hear it
Don’t give me no clichés
Just tell it like it is
I aint here to fit
Into another mans game
As my eyesight fades
Things are getting clearer
As wisdom reigns
My dreams are getting dearer
As I grow in faith
I no longer fear it
As I find my way
I can finally hear it
If I’m gonna find my place
I gotta step outside this – rat race
I gotta breathe again
Rest in my Father’s grace
When the circus leaves town
Get familiar with the sound again
I can breathe again
when I bury the clowns
