I wrote this in 2009 in a passionate reaction to an idiot who calls himself a street preacher but was mocking the homeless on his blog.
I started reworking it in a different tuning tonight, Jan. 28, 2013. I still haven't figured out how to play it smooth but something new is happening with the vocals. Good or bad I suppose is irrelevant. I was feeling this tonight so here it is.
lyrics
Seasons change and I been runnin too long
Show me love Lord for the dirty and the broken
Cuz I remember it wasn’t all that long ago
You reached out to me in the prison of my shame
Sometimes we can make the road we travel so long
Sometimes I can think I’m right but be so wrong
Sometimes climbin ladders leads to a dirty floor
And sometimes the people on the floor, well - that’s what we’re livin for
The dirty and the broken
I watch my brothers - and I see my own mistakes
We speak with passion - but you can’t sell love mixed with hate
And I remember - it wasn’t all that long ago
When my good deeds were - nuthin but a show
Sometimes we can make the road we travel so long
Sometimes I can think I’m right but be so wrong
Sometimes climbin ladders leads to a dirty floor
And sometimes the people on the floor, well - that’s what we’re livin for
The dirty and the broken
Come full circle - humbled in my low estate
Cat hair and foxtails - on the floor of my place
Time escapes me - take a call from a new friend
We share the passion - to not forget where we been
Cause sometimes climbin ladders leads to a dirty floor
And sometimes the people on the floor, well – that’s what we’re livin for
That’s what im livin for –
That’s who He came here for -
The dirty and the broken
Cuz I remember - it wasn’t all that long ago
That you showed love Lord –
When
I was dirty and
Broken
