This song is a snapshot of a period along the way...the song is not intended to suggest that just hanging with the prodigals forever is a good idea but for me it was necessary in order to break the cycle and see the state church for what it is.
I also do NOT endorse all the views and/or teachings of the author that seems to have coined the term, "Ragamuffin".
I write from where I am and deal with raw emotion at times. This is one of those songs.
The ultimate message of this song is that people who are tripped up with their own misconceptions will trip you up. A lot of these folk are found in the state church. Many of them mean well but the effect they have can be quite a burden. This song as well as "The Sound" deal with the need to get away from all that and rest in the Fathers grace.
lyrics
If I don’t jump in real soon - I’ll just keep on runnin
Take another lap or two – write a song or somethin
I just wanna chill – with the Ragamuffins and prodigals –
I swear I’ve had my fill – of hubris and self righteous fools
A winding weathered road we run – we learn along the way
Layers deep our fears can run and its only love that breaks – the chains
Break the chains
Resting in the arms of love – why’s it so damn hard
To let the love come shinin through - and burn that angry farm
Burn it down
Burn it down
Burn it down
Some say you gotta dig – and jump through all the hoops
Gotta find out what’s gone wrong inside – gotta get down to the root
Well the root is far beyond my reach so Jesus took my breach
My hope is built on nothing less then Jesus blood and righteousness
I will rest
In His righteousness
So I’m just gonna chill – with the ragamuffins and the prodigals
Real love will find us there – cuz He’s the one who cares
