This was composed outside Stater Brothers Market one night while a couple regulars were sitting on the nearby bench and coming and going. One of them was a guy who said his name was John and he was homeless. He was heading to Washington the following day.
John came and went a couple times while I was coming up with the tune. As I started to nail down the groove he came out of the store and stood before me as I played through the new piece complete without hiccups.
I finished and clearly moved, John says, "Wow, I am ready to go now...that is like traveling mercies."
